The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, Communications Division, is the public safety answering point (PSAP) for Fauquier County and the incorporated towns therein.  Through a well trained staff of telecommunicators, we are responsible for answering all 9-1-1 and non-emergency public safety calls.  In fiscal year 2020, the PSAP processed 23,403 emergency calls and 76,043 non-emergency calls.  The telecommunicators process the calls using interview skills to determine the appropriate response.  Once the response is determined, they dispatch the responders, including Sheriff Deputies, Warrenton Police Officers, and Fire and Rescue to aid citizens in mitigating the situation.   Once responders have been dispatched, they continue to monitor the situation and provide any additional services and updates needed by the citizens and the responders.

The center is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week by well trained staff.  All communications personnel receive training through the Department of Criminal Justice Service as well as the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO).  Telecommunicators are trained in call processing including emergency medical dispatch (EMD).  The training program is a total of 26 weeks.

In 2018 the agency recerified their training program through APCO’s Project 33 Training Program Certification for meeting their training standards.
